This article was written by my grandfather, Gerhard Conitzer. He published it on April 20, 1947, in the newspaper “La Razon” in La Paz, Bolivia. He shares his impressions of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp with his Bolivian brothers, logically in Spanish. The language that he says he already loved before and was able to perfect at the age of 28, later becoming a recognized poet in Bolivia.
We simply typed out his text so that we could enter it into a translation program, and of course we checked it to ensure that it was translated accurately. I think it’s worth reading the whole article.
It brings me closer to my grandfather and I admire his sense of humor, which he retained despite this sad episode. If he hadn’t had such a strong will to live, none of us, his descendants, would be alive today. With this in mind, I would simply like to say: Thank you.
